Fresh Aliums: tip to tail eating

24 June 2015

Early summer is a great time to enjoy the new season aliums (onions, garlic / leeks).

This week we have three new additions: big green garlic stem & bulbs from Matthew at Garden Harvest, bunched torpedo onions (also from Matthew), as well as Organic red spring onions (from Ripple Farm).

The torpedo onions are an early season alium - larger than spring onions, but they can be eaten raw or cooked and as the season progresses, they lose their tail, take on the brown outer skin, but don't really last beyond the end of summer. They are a delight to have at this time of year - dont miss out on them!

And non-alium, but still interesting, we have the first of the Marsh Samphire in this week from Kent. This is the only veg, that you can rinse, and put in a bowl alongside some peanuts and crisps and munch away with an aperitif.

If I was a publican, Samphire would be on all my tables at this time of year!
