Cobnuts & Pumpkins: Late summer nuttiness!

26 August 2015

A good blend of rain and just enough of warmth over the past week mean that we have the first of the pumpkins in this week from Wildfields farm.

And they are whoppers! Averaging around 4kg each and even as big as 6-7kg.

So we are offering them in various sizes - from a wedge, through to a 6kg whopper. Quite how big they will be by the time that Halloween comes round, we just dont know, but they are a hugely versatile squash: beautiful roasted, or steamed - and we have created a couple of recipe boxes this week around the pumpkin (full details below).

And on a similar nutty theme, we have the first hazel cobnuts in this week - it is a rare treat to eat fresh British nuts, in part because the squirrels get to them pretty quickly, but whether you just enjoy them as a snack, or shell and sprinkle on cakes, they are a unique and fun part of the late summer harvest...!
