The first Apples: Bakers & Cookers

18 August 2015

Nudging you out of any mid August torpor that you might have, we welcome in the first of the new season apples being picked this week, and conveniently we have a cooker AND an eater to start us off!

We have the Grenadier Cooker - an old fashionned variety of cooking apple that you are unlikely to find in the supermarkets, and precedes the better known Bramleys.

And our first eating apple is the Discovery, it is always our first apple of the season from the McCreadys at Jacobs Farm.

Both of these apples are pretty sharp / tart tasting (at this stage in the season they havent had time to build up much sugar / sweetness. But a freshly picked apple is still uniquely crisp, so enjoy them!
