A significant changing of the fruit & veg guard this week!
We have the first asparagus pushing through this week, which is always a delight, and they are accompanied by the first Oak Leaf lettuces from Gill Wing Farm. We had a few in unexpectedly last week, and they were wonderfully fresh, billowing & delicate, cut on the Friday morning by Peter, and bagged up by us as soon as he drops them in.
Peter also has the first New Season Spinach & Red Chard in this week, which is a lovely addition for us. If you had Rita's end of season spinach last week, you will see the difference - in truth these new season ones will be better: smaller, lighter, & fresher - perfect for pan-frying.
And on the flipside, its likely to be the last week of Kale & Pears. Pears will return in August, Kale in June (such is its popularity these days). Swede is also now finished, and cabbages are over too.
