Well, it has proved to be a far chillier winter than last year!
Overall this a good thing, as the consequential growth slowdown / hibernation ensures that plants and veggeis have enough reserves of starch to drive growth when the weather warms up.
But it does mean we are a good 2-3 weeks behind last year, so treats such as white sprouting broccoli, rocket & wild garlic are still not with us.
Our Cavalonero has come to an end sadly - but we have been able to start our Spring taster selection packs this week (watercress, mustard leaves and mixed salad this week). An unexpected bonus of winter salads is that they consist of the most tasty, and hardiest leaves.
If you havent tried the Ripple Farm mixed salad bags, then you really must - full of radiccio and baby kale, they are delightfullly tasty and chewy!
We have the first of the cherry tomatoes in from the Isle of Wight, which are always hugely popular, and we are also trying out some new products from them: passata, ketchup and smoked tomato balsamic vinegar - apparently they went to a food show recently and sold out of their entire stock of the balsamic vinegar without 3 hours....!
